Take Care of Pets (dogs) During Rainy Season

The rainy season is here and while the mercury outside might have dipped your dog’s life has become extremely stressed. This is because the elevated levels of atmospheric humidity seem to be treacherous for these furry creatures making the rainy season next to unbearable for them.

We might enjoy the rains, but the same cannot be said for dogs. They get really irritated by it and while it might seem that your pooch likes to play in the downpour, he is actually unhappy. Once in the rain, their paws get wet and muddy and need to be cleaned every now and then.

If your dog’s coat gets soiled, you might feel like bathing him. But did you know that it is a very bad idea to bathe your dog daily or even weekly for that matter? Using too much water can result in skin infections in your dog.

Thus, the best option would be to use a dry shampoo and clean him thoroughly. These shampoos do not require the use of water and can be used to get rid of dirt and grime from the coat.

Dogs do not sweat much through their skin which makes it susceptible to fungal infections which seem to dominate the pads of their feet.

When there is excessive humidity you are most likely to find moist eczema like lesions on your pet’s feet. This can be prevented by cleaning the skin with a clean dry towel and dabbing anti-fungal powders on his feet.

Another problem that seems to haunt most dog owners at this point of time is that of ticks and fleas. The best way to prevent tick infestation is to avoid taking your dog for a walk on grass.

You must remember to use anti-tick preparations such as dog collars, shampoos, lotions or powders to protect your pet from ticks and fleas. Taking your dog for a hair cut is also a great idea to protect it from ticks and fleas.

During the rainy season you must watch out for poisonous mushrooms that may sprout up in your garden or anywhere your dog goes for a walk. These are extremely toxic and may result in poisoning your pet. In case, your pet comes down with uncontrollable vomiting or diarrhea, you must rush to the vet.
